Books of Thought: Marriage done right without the state?
Tonight, I feel old.
Maria is courting Mr. John Eppes.
He recently asked me for her hand & has put the dowry in writing.
I know that I needn’t fret about her a moment longer. He is, indeed, a good man.
However, I cannot believe that she is now a grown woman with her own hopes, dreams, fears, & ambitions.
Her mother would be quite proud.
Now, all I must do is say goodbye to my little Polly.
The wedding is set for October, at his estate.

Thank-you, my dear. You musn’t forget that you far surpass me in these matters. You are important, and a gem. Yours, Th. Jefferson
